Character Types

To select any character type except Pure Mortal, you must have a High Concept that identifies which character type you’ve selected. Many of the various types have requirements for additional information which must be included in the High Concept.

Pure Mortal (+2 Refresh)

You’re totally normal, with no supernatural abilities whatsoever.

  • May not take Powers
  • Gain +2 Refresh

Champion of God (-5 to -8 Refresh)

  • Must have a high Conviction (Good or higher)
  • Must take following powers: Bless This House (-1), Guide My Hand (-1), Holy Touch (-1), Righteousness (-2)
  • May be a Knight of the Cross, carrying a Sword of the Cross (-3)

Changeling (-0 or more Refresh)

Half human, half faerie. One day, you will have to make a Choice and become fully one or the other.

  • Must include faerie parentage in High Concept
  • May purchase any abilities held by parent
  • May determine parent’s abilities or leave that to the GM

Emissary of Power (-1 or more Refresh)

You’ve made a bargain to borrow power from another.

  • Must have a High Concept that includes the bargain or pact they made
  • Must take Marked by Power (-1)
  • May take any appropriate powers and/or items of power
  • Might want to look at Sponsored Magic

Focused Practitioner (-2 to -5 Refresh)

A magical specialist, you don’t have a lot of breadth, but you are an expert in your field (basically anything that ends in -mancer).

  • Must have a High Concept that names or implies their spellcasting abilities
  • Must take one or both of Channeling (-2) and Ritual (-2)
  • May take The Sight (-1)
  • Important skills: Conviction, Discipline, Lore

Knight of a Faerie Court (-5 or more Refresh)

A human bound to the service of either the Summer or Winter Court. There is only one Knight for each Court at any time, but the Knights are granted great power and terrible responsibility.

  • Must have a High Concept that identifies the title and mantle assumed
  • Must take either Seelie Magic (-4) or Unseelie Magic (-4), as appropriate
  • Must take Marked by Power (-1)
  • May take other relevant powers and abilities
  • Important skills: Conviction, Discipline

Lycanthrope (-4 Refresh)

Mostly human, but your mind (not your body) goes bestial for 5 days every full moon (2 days before and after).

  • Must take Pack Instincts (-1), Echoes of the Beast (-1), Human Form (Involuntary Change) (+2)
  • Must take Inhuman Strength (-2) and Inhuman Recovery (-2), though these powers are only active around the full moon
  • Important skills: Alertness, Endurance, Investigation, Might, Survival

Minor Talent (-1 or -2 Refresh)

You can do a trick that most people can’t. It makes you a little more than human.

  • Select a single supernatural power with a refresh cost of -1 (or, with approval, -2); the Minor Ability and Psychic Ability categories are generally the most suitable

Red Court Infected (-3 or more Refresh)

You’ve been infected by a Red Court Vampire, and one day will turn into a bloodsucking monster.

  • Must take Addictive Saliva (-1), Blood Drinker (-1)
  • Must take Feeding Dependency (+1), which affects all abilities below
  • Must take at least one of Inhuman Recovery (-2), Inhuman Speed (-2), Inhuman Strength (-2), Inhuman Toughness (-2)
  • If the character ever kills another human and drinks its blood, the character is immediately upgraded to full Red Court Vampire and becomes an NPC.
  • May take Tattoos of St. Giles (-2), Cloak of Shadows (-1)
  • Important skills: Fists, Deceit, Discipline

Sorcerer (-6 or more Refresh)

You aren’t as powerful or as well-trained as a Wizard of the White Circle, but you have a little more freedom as a result.

  • Must take Evocation (-3), Thaumaturgy (-3); please work out your standard spells before play
  • May take The Sight (-1)
  • May take the Spellcasting/Lawbreaker stunt
  • May take Refinement (-1) once for Evocation and/or once for Thaumaturgy
  • Important skills: Conviction, Discipline, Lore

True Believer (-2 or more Refresh)

You have True Faith, and Faith has a power of its own.

  • Should have a high Conviction (good or better)
  • Must take Bless This House (-1), Guide My Hand (-1)
  • May take Righteousness (-2), and/or a custom Item of Power

Were-form (-3 or more Refresh)

You can shapeshift into animal form, retaining your human mind as you do so.

  • Must take Beast Change (-1), Echoes of the Beast (-1), Human Form (+1)
  • Must take at least -2 Refresh of the following abilities
  • May take up to two of Inhuman Recovery (-2), Inhuman Speed (-2), Inhuman Strength (-2), Inhuman Toughness (-2), as appropriate to the animal
  • May take abilities from the Creature Feature or Minor Ability categories, as appropriate to the animal

White Court Vampire (-7 or more Refresh)

You were born a vampire, and subsist off of the emotions of others.

  • Must take Emotional Vampire (-1), Human Guise (+0), Incite Emotion (Touch Only) (-1)
  • Must take Feeding Dependency (+1), which affects the following abilities
  • Must take Inhuman Recovery (-2) with a Catch of True Love
  • Must take Inhuman Speed (-2), Inhuman Strength (-2)
  • May take the more expensive version of Incite Emotion for more range or a broader gamut
  • May upgrade Inhuman Recovery to Supernatural Recovery
  • Important skills: Athletics, Alertness, Deceit, Endurance, Discipline, Intimidation, Might, other physical skills

White Court Virgin (-2 or more Refresh)

You were born a vampire, but haven’t yet killed. There is still hope for you.

  • Must take Emotional Vampire (-1), Incite Emotion (Touch Only) (-1)
  • May take other White Court Vampire abilities, but then must take Feeding Dependency as well
  • Important skills: Deceit, Intimidation

Wizard (-7 or more Refresh)

You are a powerful, well-trained wizard with all of the resources of the White Circle behind you. In theory.

  • Must take Evocation (-3), Thaumaturgy (-3), The Sight (-1), Soulgaze (-0, discounted due to The Sight), Wizard’s Constitution (-0); please work out common spells before play
  • May (and should) take Refinement as often as they wish
  • Important skills: Conviction, Discipline, Endurance, Lore
